There are several species of Elm planted on the St. Paul Campus. The native species, American Elm (Ulmus americana) is highly susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease, so several other primarily Asian hybrid species have been planted on campus. All American Elms that remain on campus are preventatively treated with fungicide to hold back Dutch Elm Disease for as long as possible.
